Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this Pullrite Superglide Fifth Wheel Hitch for your Ford Super Duty factory prep package. Now this is designed to fit your 2010 and newer Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty with the 6 3/4 foot bed with the OEM prep package. And so this fifth wheel hitch mounts into that truck bed by attaching to that factory installed fifth wheel towing prep package from Ford. So that's gonna give you the ability to tow your fifth wheel trailer.
This does have a gross towing weight of 16,000 pounds and a vertical load limit of 4,000 pounds. This entire unit, the head and the base together, weigh a little over 200 pounds. So the head weighs about 40 pounds, the base weighs well over 170. All that to say this is going to be quite a bit of a lighter option to consider than some of the other auto slide options that are out there. Some of those other auto slide options can be very heavy and very difficult to get that mounted in the bed of your truck.
This is not going to be the case with this Pullrite. I was able to get this up on my table with very little difficulty, with my coworker lifting one side and me lifting the other side. And this typically does sit a little bit higher than your truck bed. So all that to say this is really gonna be a lighter option and an easier option to get installed into the bed of your truck. Now this does feature an automatic slider that's going to let you safely make turns with your short bed truck.
So another huge benefit of this is you're not going to have to get into and out of your truck to operate a manual slider. It's gonna be automatic. And I do have this loosened up a little bit just to kind of give you a demonstration of how this is gonna operate and really how easy this is going to work. This is specifically designed for short bed trucks to give you that additional clearance between the truck's cab and the leading edge of your trailer during turns. It's designed to allow your truck to turn up to 90 degrees as you saw there with that demonstration there.
Now other variables do come to play such as variables like trailer width, or squared off or rounded corners, and the location of the potential point of trailer to cab contact. But overall, this is going to do a great job of giving you up to that 90-degree turn as you can see. So obviously, this is going to turn a whole lot easier when you have this installed. And so I'm just trying to give you a demonstration here, and I need to be a little bit careful here as I turn that just to make sure this stays on my table as well. So again, you see where you can really get that sharp turn. The head's going to slide toward the tailgate when you turn and then back towards the cab when you begin to straighten out, just like that. Now what's nice about this too is that there's no gears or easily breakable small parts. You're just gonna have a tube here in the center that's going to follow along the opening here in these plates. And so very little maintenance to worry about with this. Now this is going to give you a travel, front and back, up to 14 inches. And the height of this hitch is gonna be about 17 1/2 inches. A capture plate is a required component for this superglide system. And that plate is going to be, as you probably know, attached to your trailer skid plate. And so when you're hooked up into your superglide hitch and ready to tow, that plate is going to isolate the rotation of your trailer's king pin in the hitch, and then the movement and the rotation is then transferred to the automatic cam action of this superglide hitch, moving it away from the cab along its rails to prevent the trailer from contacting the cab of your truck. Now this does feature a self-locking hitch plate for easy hookup, and let me just show you, give you a demonstration of that. You see my demonstration of my king pin here. So this is ready to receive the king pin. So as you see, (metal clangs) just like that, it's going to lock into place. And if you notice, the handle does lock automatically once that king pin is in place. And then just to show you how easy it's going to be to uncouple, (metal clangs) just like that. So it's very easy. Let me go ahead and give you an overhead view. I wanna show that to you again. And while we're here, I wanted to point out that the jaw is going to close and then the handle's gonna lock automatically, but the precisely laser cut wraparound jaw creates less rattle and it gives you more security than slide bar jaws. So again (metal clangs), just like that. And then this is gonna be lockable as well. So you're just gonna put a a padlock after this is the handle is closed and retracted. You'll just put a padlock right there and that will keep this locked and someone can't come by and uncouple this. (metal clangs) So very simple and very secure as well. This does feature a dual articulating head that's going to make hookup easier. It's gonna help limit chucking, it's gonna pivot front to back, and side to side. And this is going to be a quick and simple installation and also removal. Let me give you a closeup here just to show you what's going to actually go into your puck system here. So you're not gonna have any binding unlike other OE puck systems. What you're gonna do is you're just going to turn these levers this way and then you'll just drop this into the four-receiver pucks that are built into the factory underbed rails. And then you'll just move this back to what I'm calling the closed position. And then that will secure this into your puck system in the bed of your truck. And then you'll just clip it with a pin and clip there, and then you'll be good to go. So very easy to secure in place with these top mounted mounting posts. Now this system is made here in the U.S.A. of black powder coated and e-coated steel. So this is gonna be corrosion resistant. It's gonna hold up really well for you and it's really gonna be a great option to consider for your Ford Super Duty, if you're looking for a great alternatives to those other heavier auto slide options. This is really gonna be a great option to consider. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
It was just as described. Was easy to put in and secure into my truck.
Thank you for all your help
Simple to install, easy to use.
Good product
Came a day early and install was straight forward!
Only used. It once
It is a great hitch, glad we spent the money.
Perfect as advertised.
Good hitch. It’s heavy and big but that’s expected for a 24k hitch. Moves and slides well.
It worked like a charm. I found out that using the OE puck system made it little difficult to get just right so the levers can be pulled out with ease when removing the hitch. Took additional 1 1/2 hours to make sure it was perfect.
Quick shipping and while I've only towed with it once so far, it seems to work just as advertised. Was a bit tight the first usage, but after lubricating it with WD40, and learning to raise the pin box to the right height, it started latching better. Overall, I believe this hitch will live up to it's reputation.
